WHAT IS THE DAT?
The Dental Admissions Exam (DAT) is a multiple-choice standardized exam taken by potential dental school students in the United States and Canada. The DAT is a computer-based test that is administered almost any day of the year. This is an important part of your application. Check out these articles to learn more about it!
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE DAT?
Everyone studies differently! By doing a bit of research on what resources are out there, you can find the best way to personalize your studying. There are ALOT of resources intended to help students ace this exam! Lafayette students in the past have commonly used DAT destroyer and Bootcamp. HOW MANY CLINICAL SHADOWING HOURS DO I NEED?
Shadowing is essentially going to a dentist’s or dental specialist’s office to observe procedures, learn terminology and techniques, observe different practice environments and ask the dental professional questions about his or her journey to practicing dentistry. Every school has a different set of requirements, many require both general and specialty shadowing hours. You can get connected to a dentist by reaching out to local clinics or hospitals or even contacting your Gateway advisor!​

COURSEWORK REQUIRED FOR DENTAL SCHOOL
Majoring in science is not a must, but completion of predental science requirements is necessary. Required courses generally include:
Biology 1 and 2 with lab
General Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab
Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab
Physics 1 and 2 with lab
